Distributed Grid Atlas

Early stage
Distributed Grid Atlas

The Distributed Grid Atlas is an attempt to map what the energy transition looks like on the ground: the solar parks and substations, the containerised batteries in industrial estates, the transmission corridors under construction and the ones stuck in land acquisition.

Most coverage of the transition happens at the level of targets and announcements. The Atlas works at the level of hardware and geography — where things are being built, by whom, and whether they work. It is slow, unglamorous reporting, which is the point: the grid is the story, and the grid is a place.
